When Snooki Stumbles

Should moms-to-be ditch the high heels?

by Jacqueline Tourville

Snooki—aka Nicole Polizzi—swore off alcohol and spray tans but kept the high heels when she found out she was expecting. But after getting caught by photogs stumbling about in platform sandals recently, is the Jersey Shore star finally ready to give her wild wedges the boot?

Despite the fact that this is the second time Snooki has been snapped in a near fall while wearing a pair of her signature heels, flats don't seem to be in her future. As Snooki tells Good Morning America, "I feel confident in [heels], and I know I'm not going to fall, so until it feels very uncomfortable, I'm still going to rock them," she says. "I'm only 24 and I'm pregnant—it doesn't mean I need to be wearing flats and ugly shoes. I can still look good."

What do the experts recommend? According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, moms-to-be—even Jersey Shore moms-to-be—are better off in low-heeled (not flat) shoes with good arch support as a way to prevent back strain and balance problems, especially in the later months of pregnancy.

As for our mom experts, comfort trumps style—especially when you are headed into the home stretch. "I couldn't see my feet, so I really didn't care what I was wearing on them, just as long as I could slip them on," says mom Jenny Bryant of Wells, Maine. "I ended up wearing Crocs or slippers most of the time. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow and forget about fashion."

Since Snooki seems to be sticking by her stilettos, perhaps Victoria Beckham would be willing to stage an intervention. After delivering Harper Seven last summer, Beckham admitted that high heels during pregnancy led her to experience severe disc issues in her back.

Snooki in slippers? Let's hope they get this on film!
