In the Baby Zone with Lisa Loeb

by BabyZone Editors

At 28 weeks pregnant, musician Lisa Loeb is… tired. But that won't keep her from performing her "Silly Sing Along" songs at the Los Angeles launch party for Pregnancy Awareness Month in May—just shy of her June due date. "I'm always so interested to hear other moms' stories," says Loeb. "Moms can feel very alone in their experience, and I'm just glad we live in a place where people are really free to share."

Here, mom to Lyla, born 2009, shares what pregnancy is like the second time around.

What's your golden rule of parenting?

Make sure you get enough sleep. But that also goes for when you're a mother… for anyone, really—just make sure you get enough sleep!

Describe the best moment of parenting so far.

I love when the baby starts moving. And this baby moves a lot!

It's hilarious. The baby moves and I say, "You gotta feel this!" and the hands go on the stomach. And you wait. It's like whale watching. You know, you go inside to get a piece of gum and of course you miss the whale, and you have to wait again.

And the worst?

The constant nausea the first four months—it was really annoying. I wasn't vomiting, but the amount that I had to eat to stave off the nausea was just—it was overwhelming. I love food, but I was tired of eating.

Best advice you ever got?

A friend who's a massage therapist told me to breathe five times in a row. And, you know, that helped when I was a mom, too, especially in the early stages. It just helps you get back in the moment.

What's the one thing you can't live without?

I couldn't do without the grandparents.

Finish this sentence: You know you're in the Baby Zone when...

… you feel good about waking up at 3 AM to eat pretzels in the middle of the night.
