What a difference a day makes! When we last left off on the subject of Snooki and breastfeeding, the Jersey Shore star was on Good Morning America owning up to being more than a little scared at the thought of nursing her soon-to-be born baby. "It just looks so painful," the then 7-months pregnant Snooki told GMA's Juju Chang. Even breast pumps were baffling. "It's kind of like you're a cow, and you just milk it?" she asked.
The 24-year-old took heat from breastfeeding groups over her perceived anti-nursing stance. But since August 26, the day Snooki and fiancé Jionni LaValle welcomed baby boy Lorenzo into the world, things seems to have changed dramatically for the first-time mom because... Snooki is breastfeeding!
Confirmation came, no surprise, via Twitter. "I love nursing my little man!" she tweeted in response to a fan who asked Snooki whether she decided to breastfeed.
And now, some moms are saying that Snooki may be a new role model for giving breastfeeding a chance, no matter what pre-baby preconceptions you may harbor.
"I too had a lot misgivings and fears about breastfeeding before my baby was born, but then I gave it a try and I'm still nursing nine months later," says mom Nadia Fuller of Corpus Christi, Texas. "I think way more women feel like Snooki than will admit."
"I admire Snooki for doing right by her baby. Maybe she met with a lactation consultant before giving birth or just made up her mind to nurse when she finally met little Lorenzo. Whatever happened, I am thrilled for her," says another New Jersey mom (and Jersey Shore fan), Amber Dwight, who also offers a Jersey-Shore-style congrats to the new parents.
"Fist pump, Snooki and Jionni!"
