Tamera Mowry-Housely has a lot of “new” in her life. A new season of the hit Style network reality show, Tia & Tamera, costarring Tamera and twin sister Tia, is set to hit the airwaves this July 14. She and Tia just launched a new line of stretch cream and breastfeeding teas as part of their Need brand. And to top it off, she’s a new mom! She and husband, Fox News Correspondent Adam Housley, welcomed son Aden in late 2012.

What is your Golden Rule of parenting?
My golden rule is to teach our child unconditional love, and to adjust to people’s differences, because not everyone is going to be the same. That’s what so cool about our family… we’re all very different, but we all love each other. That’s number one, unconditional love! I also find that our family is always trying to better ourselves as people, better ourselves with the foods with eat, and with exercise. I hope to instill in my son a wholesome, moral character. I want him to be the best person he can be in every aspect of his life.
What is the best part of being a mom so far?
Aden is seven months, and the greatest thing has been seeing him smile for the first time. In the beginning, you have this being that’s just kind of there, and you are going crazy doing every everything you can possibly do to simply keep them alive. You’re stressing out, thinking oh my gosh, am I doing this right?? Especially as a first time mom! When he smiled at me for the first time, and it wasn’t just a gassy smile, it was a true social smile, that was a pivotal moment in my life. I will never ever forget it! Now he responds to me. I’ll call out, Aden! and he will smile and giggle. I love watching him reach his milestones. He’s sitting up, he’s talking. These are beautiful moments.
And the worst?
People always say, you’re going to be tired, you’re going to be tired… But what they don’t really explain is that you’re going to have work, and function, and be sociable on top of being sleep-deprived. I was already scatter-brained before getting pregnant and having a baby, but my mommy brain is now on a whole new level. I seriously have to work really hard to refocus and rebalance myself, and really try hard to remember and think! It’s crazy!
And then, I am just going to be real and talk about the belly bulge. After you have a baby, some women are just blessed that their postpartum their bellies go back to what they looked like before. (Tia interrupting, ‘Have you seen Anna Paquin? She had twins! Twins! I love her, but I mean come on!’)
Yes, that’s what I am saying, there are some women who are blessed by the gods to have five or six kids and look like they’ve never had any. And then there’s me! (laughing) Just about every part of my body is back where I want it to be… my arms, my legs… but not my belly. I’m still working on it. I just want to know, how do I get the bulge down! I mean, I’m only seven months postpartum, but when I see moms like Anna Paquin, I want to know, how do I that!
In the bigger picture, though, I am also accepting that, for new moms, getting used to your new body is a transition. I am learning each and every day to love myself just the way I am.
Best advice you ever got?
Sleep when the baby sleeps!
What’s the one thing you can’t live without?
My Britax baby carrier. My son loves to see out and it’s the perfect one. He loves it! It’s comfortable for me to wear too.
Finish this sentence, you know you’re in the BabyZone when…
You are dressed up for a really important meeting and then you realize you have spit up running down the back of your shirt!
