Junk Mail
One rule of thumb for paper control success: When junk mail enters your front door, do not allow it to hit a table, countertop, or desk. It will take you all of three minutes to fish through your incoming pile for catalogs or junk mail you know you will never look at. (Self-doubters, give yourself more credit—you can recognize junk mail envelopes without opening them!) Keep a recycling bin right near where you enter the house with the mail, and sort the junk mail directly to its proper destination! If your community doesn't offer recycling, keep a wastebasket by the door (and get in touch with community leaders to lobby for recycling!).
