11 Last-Minute Halloween Costumes for Mom
After working on Halloween costumes for the rest of the family, you realize you still need one for yourself. Or maybe you weren't planning on dressing up until you were asked to help out at the school Halloween party. You need something easy and kid-friendly. Put the glue gun down and check out these 11 minimal-effort Halloween costumes for Mom.
Dora the Explorer
If you are looking for an easy costume sure to delight the kids, look no further than Dora! Even if you don’t have every piece of this outfit in your closet, each is fairly easy to get. Bonus points if you add a face and map to the backpack.

Every mom owns a pair of yoga pants and a tank top, right? This is probably one of the easiest costume looks to put together that isn’t too far off from a normal day. Bonus points if you bring along your yoga mat.
Vanellope Von Schweetz
A very fun character costume that you can put together with minimal effort and still be recognizable is Vanellope from Wreck-It Ralph. The hardest part is finding a mint green hoodie and tights. (Though blue or green could work in a pinch). Use colored duct tape to create the white and purple stripes on her leggings and add a brown skater skirt. For the hair, use pink or red pipe cleaners to make your licorice ponytail tie and add bright colored barrettes.

5. Duck Tape Winking White Duct Tape at Target
Okay, okay, this might seem too easy, but it’s a last minute costume, alright? There is probably a red shirt and a pair of khakis in your closet somewhere (and if not, you can easily get these). You’ll know who shops there by the reactions you get. Just don’t GO shopping at Target while dressed like this. An alternate idea is to use a blue shirt and add a yellow name tag, if Best Buy is more your speed.

2. Dickies Twill Pants in Khaki on Amazon
Who says you can’t get dressed up all fancy on Halloween? If you are like me, then you probably have a couple dresses hidden in the closet that were only worn once. (If not, then splurge a little on a nice dress like this one from Nordstrom). Add a tiara, a sash and silk roses to create a full prom queen (or pageant) look.
The Peanuts comic strip is a classic. There are usually a few Charlie Brown costumes every Halloween, but do you see many Peppermint Patty ones? It’s easy with a green shirt like this one, black shorts, and some electrical tape to create stripes. Simple! Bonus if it’s not too cold to wear flip flops.
The Minion costume from Despicable Me is pretty popular, and you can look like one too in just a few shorts minutes. With a yellow hoodie you can be a bald minion or you can add some hair to the top. You can use black pipe cleaners, yarn, electrical tape or even marker. Add denim overalls and black gloves. For their goggles you can wear glasses, goggles or opt to draw them on your face with eyeliner.
Almost everyone has a black and white striped shirt they can work with for this classic costume. If not, a white shirt with black electrical tape stripes will work too. Put on a pair of white gloves and a beret along with white and black makeup. Red suspenders are optional. Not feeling the mime look? Keep the shirt and swap the beret for a black knit hat or a ski mask, and you become a burglar. Or a prisoner. See, that shirt comes in handy for last minute Halloween costumes!
My all-time favorite movie is Mary Poppins. She wears a few different outfits, but I think this one is the easiest to replicate with items in your closet. You’ll need a white shirt, red bow tie, black skirt, black shoes, an umbrella and a spoonful of sugar. Or wait on the sugar until you get some candy. Bonus points if you add a black trench coat, knit scarf, and a black hat with flowers sticking out of it.

I Love Lucy
Oh, Lucy! With a beautiful polka dot dress and a strand of pearls you can say you are dressed as Lucille Ball from I Love Lucy. Bonus if you can do your hair like hers or have a Lucy wig. Even without the iconic hair you could pose as a woman from the 1950s in a vintage dress.
If you have a purple dress and a green scarf you can quickly transform into Daphne from Scooby Doo. Bonus points for orange hair and tall purple footwear!
