Stop Negative Thoughts from Sabotaging Your Weight Loss
When you are trying to lose weight or get in shape, there’s a battle taking place in your head! You might not know it now, but it’s a war between your positive self-image and those awful negative thoughts that chip away at your self-esteem and erode your self-confidence.
The negative voice says things like, “You’ve already blown your diet today so you might as well eat another slice of pizza!” It tells you that you’re not as strong and determined as your peers and will never get down to your pre-baby weight. Sometimes the negative voice actually comes out of your mouth in those little self-deprecating comments women love to make in front of their friends: “I tried on bathing suits today and wanted to die! My thighs didn’t even fit in the mirror!” Or “You did a step aerobics class today? I’m lucky if I can just get my big buns up the steps!”
It’s just a joke, right? Not really. Those insulting statements are really a form of self-defense against what you mistakenly believe everyone is already thinking. They’re also self-fulfilling prophesies. What we say and think often comes true. We are in charge of ourselves, our thinking, and our destiny, so why are we often our own worst enemy?
Listen to Your Better Self
In order to be successful at anything in life, whether it’s your career, motherhood, or weight loss, you have to put a lid on those negative thoughts and start listening to the powerful, confident woman who created and cares for a fragile human being. That woman is a tireless leader, a natural teacher, and a fierce protector of the life she created. If it were necessary, she would do anything, she could will herself to do anything for that child. That amazing person is the one you should be listening to, don’t you think?
She’s the cheerleader who says, “You can do it. Get up. We have a workout to do!” She’s the friend who says, “You deserve to take time for yourself.” She’s the coach who says, “Go faster. Push harder. Don’t stop now. You’re doing so well!”
Let her be in charge! In fact, if you can’t do it for yourself, do this for your children too. Modeling a positive attitude will help develop resilient children!
