The New Way to Make Mom Friends
I’m guessing we’ve all been there once or twice. You see another mom from across the playground. She looks fun, with a hip hair cut and cute shoes. She has a precious baby around the same age as yours. She’s drinking an iced coffee from the same place that you get your iced coffee. You think perhaps the stars are aligned, that on this day you’ll finally meet a new mom friend in the neighborhood. But before you know it, your baby’s pooped her pants and you’re making a beeline for home.

Never fear, folks. Turns out there are several ways to make mom friends via the internet. One such example is Mom Meet Mom, which bills itself as a “a fun website designed for moms and caregivers that takes the stress out of making mom friends.” The website’s exclusive matchmaking system connects local moms with similar interests, schedules, families, and personalities. Free to join, you simply fill out a profile detailing criteria like interests, schedule, personality type, family composition, and social preferences. Then presto! With the help of the site’s unique algorithm, matches are generated and new friend suggestions are made.
Let’s all clink sippy cups, shall we? I really love this idea. Sure, hit the playground or a music class and you’ll meet all sorts of moms. But it can be awkward to get past the, “Hi, your son is so cute. How old is he?” conversation to something more meaningful. I like the fact that Mom Meet Mom does the homework for you and will match you with another mom similar to you. One that would, say, let their child eat Fluff on occasion or take their shoes off at the sandbox.
There’s no question that moms need other moms. We need each other for support, advice, laughter and to commiserate over whose child took a sharpie pen to the couch. In fact, research shows it’s just as important for moms to have friends as it is for their children. So don’t be shy… with all the dating sites out there, it was just a matter of time before we discovered one connecting moms.
Move over, playground!
