Mother's Day

i never thought i would have a child then here it was mothers day and a baby girl came out and it was a life of joy
My best Mother's Day will be this year. We have a baby boy born at 25 weeks that is now home after 108 days in the NICU. He is a true miracle. He was my fifth pregnancy but only the second to make it home with us.
My best Mother's Day was 2006 when I found out I was pregnant. My mom and aunt planned a "Mother's Day Weekend Getaway" for their aunt and mother. My sister, cousins, and I took a weekend road trip with our mothers and it was a blast. I really appreciated the women-only excursion and felt closer to my mom and grandmother with my secret of just finding out I was pregnant. When we got home, I told them how much I enjoyed the trip and that it was my first Mother's Day too. They were all thrilled and no one could wait for the following year to see the new addition (another female) in our family.
I had my daughter May 5, 2007 at 7:35 in the morning after 32 hours of labor. I got very sick during labor and the medications I had to get went straight to my daughter. She ended up going to the NICU. She had an infection, a fractured left clavicle, and she came out not breathing so great. She had to be put on CPAP. So then our journey began. I was also a nurse in the unit that she had to stay in so I knew everything that she was about to endure and it was going to be a lot. After a week of being in the NICU, scrubbing in for every hands-on in order to be able to touch her, and just leaving my baby in the hospital without me being there, we finally got to go home. I remember it so well. We went home on Friday, May 11. It was the best day of my life besides giving birth. Two days later, Mother's Day came. What a gift ... Being able to finally take my precious baby home after a week of being in the hospital and spending the day with her. How blessed was I! We had a great relaxing day just hanging out as a family at home with our new baby girl.
My due date had been the day before Mother's Day. I REALLY wanted to not go over my due date. I never thought once about my baby being born ON Mother's Day because neat things like that just don't happen to me. As my due date came to a close, I wanted to cry because I hadn't gone into labor. At 10 PM, I had a contraction that really did make me cry, and as I walked the halls of the labor ward at the hospital at midnight, my husband said, "By the way, Happy Mother's Day!" I hadn't realized until just then, that it was Mother's Day. I was so happy, even during the next contraction. My daughter was born at 8:25 Mother's Day morning. The hospital gave me a bunch of red roses for the occasion. I was glad my prayers for an early delivery hadn't been answered the way I wanted!
