8 Joys of Raising Spirited Girls
Parenting books claim "spirited" to be an adjective of girls that are difficult to parent, but I object. My spirited girl is adventurous, loving and destined to be an amazing woman. As long as I stay focused on my end game as a parent, my girl's innate character will suit her beautifully into adulthood. Here are my 8 joys in raising a spirited baby girl.
Do You Have A Sprited Baby Girl?
Are you raising a spirited girl? Do people comment on your little girl’s spirited behavior? While that word can garner some negative reactions, I’ve learned to love raising my baby girl’s tremendous spirit. She’s intense and deliberate, and I love it. These 8 joys of raising spirited girls are ways I stay focused on my end goal as a parent: to raise a girl that demands respect with a positive presence, is affection and empathetic and, beyond all else, is self assured.
Spirited Girls Like Themselves
Is there a greater joy in parenting spirited baby girls than knowing that they like the way they are? Before the world has taken hold of them and kicked around their awesomeness? I think not. When parenting my spirited girl, I give her plenty of opportunity to exert her self esteem, reminding her that (while her spirit can drain mama every once in awhile) I absolutely adore that she loves who she is.
Spirited Girls Are Good At Loving
They’re energetic and lively, but spirited girls are intense when it comes to loving who they love. Embrace your spirited girls tendencies to overtly love by focusing on how great it feels. Spirited girls do everything 100%, so focus on what makes their character so heart-warming.
Spirited Girls Are Defiant
In a society where parents worry about bullying and stranger danger, I try to view my spirited girl’s defiance as a positive characteristic. With a healthy dose of limit setting and discipline, I’m proud that my girl follows the beat to her own drum. She questions everything and is defiant when prompted to do something she feels is wrong. Spirited girls are defiant because they have their way of doing things.
Spirited Girls Are Pensive
While her spirit dictates many of her actions, my girl is also cautiously pensive. She doesn’t often react without thinking things through. She likes to watch before making her grand debut. I love this about her, as I often catch her grinning sheepishly at something she’s seen. This quality is not often noted in spirited girls; others might not see the nuances of their boisterous personalities. Take the time to let your girl know that you see her pensive observations and think it’s pretty cool.
Spirited Girls Are Adventurous
Is your spirited girl adventurous? That’s awesome! Take their innate inclination to explore and give them something to brag about—expose them to Mother Nature, to their ancestors, tell your spirited girl how much you love their excitement about life and the world. While their adventurous personality can exhaust mama and daddy now and then, that curious characteristic will benefit them late in life.
Spirited Girls Are Kind
Yes, they’re spirited and push our limits, but spirited girls are also the pinnacle of kindness when they want to be. I am constantly amazed with the sweet notions of kindness that come out of my toddler, as her intense personality is equally intent on showing those she cares for that she is appreciative.
Spirited Girls Are Performers
It’s in their spirit— they can’t help it—our girls love to perform! Whether acting up or reciting lines from their favorite books, spirited girls just want to know you’re paying attention. That requires more work on mom and dad’s part, but raising spirited girls to be self assured with a sense of value will undoubtedly be your biggest reward.
The Beauty of Spirited Girls
People call her spirited and you wonder if they mean “bad,” but focusing on the joys of raising spirited girls will remind you of how awesome your girl is. She’s strong and secure, and with your help, she’ll grow to be one amazing woman. The joys of raising spirited girls goes beyond raising daughters to be kind and courteous; it extends to raising women that will impact our world in unforeseen ways. And it all starts with you!
