Little Boys and Buddies: Why Male Friendships Matter

Boys Need Friends

"Research has found friendships to be critical," says Dr. Handwerk. "[A boy] doesn't have to have a lot of friends but at least one. Kids tend to be more susceptible to negative things if there are no friendships."

Friendships provide a way for children to develop a connection with the world outside of their family. Through these relationships, children learn to consider other points of view, learn to negotiate and be tolerant, and learn the skills necessary to function in the future.
