Q&A: I'm pregnant. Is an hCG level of 273 a good number?

by Dr. Gerard M. DiLeo

My period was four days late and a urine test came back positive. My doctor did a quantitative hCG, which was 273. Is this number normal at this stage?

It can be, but the real normal is if it approximately doubles 48 hours later. No HCG test numbers are meaningful without a comparison 48 hours later except to say that you're pregnant at all.
