Q&A: How long after I get off birth control can I conceive?

by Marie O'Sullivan, RN

I was wondering how long after you get off of birth control can you conceive? I been off for a month now and I am a week late on period, so is it possible that I am pregnant yet?

Dear Thereisa,
The experts say to wait a few months just so your cycle can become regular again buth there is no reason you could not be pregnant as soon as you are off the pill. Take a HPT, if that is negative and you don't get your period soon, call you OB to get a blood pregnancy test. Sometimes your cycle may be off due to getting off birth control. I hope this helps.
