I am presently 8 weeks pregnant (since last menstrual) and I have some slight bleeding. I had a scheduled appointment with my gyn. this week and he scheduled an internal ultrasound.
During this ultrasound the amniotic sac was intact as was the yolk sac, but there wasn't a embryo/fetus. The nurse said that all the signs were good and not to worry.
Later the doctor's assistant called and mentioned that the doctor had said the pregnancy is fine and at six weeks.
We have a second internal ultrasound scheduled in two weeks. Is this common when you are 8 weeks pregnant (menstrual Nov. 17, conception Dec. 1) to only have development of six weeks? -
Yes, this can happen. The explanation in such cases is that you had a 2 week delay in ovulation and conception, but your calculations from your last menses is based on the assumption that you ovulated right on time.
The next ultrasound will be the dealbreaker. If there is a 2 week interval growth, then everything's fine. If there's been no further development, then a miscarriage should be considered. But usually an office wouldn't say "everything's fine" if there were significant worries over an ultrasound. Good luck.
