Q&A: Ultrasound technitioans have been reluctant to share the gender of the baby with me.

by Marie O'Sullivan, RN

Why are ultrasound technitians reluctant to share the gender of the baby?

I recently asked my OB the same question. He explained that even if the ultrasound results are very clear, the techs do not have the ultimate say. The radiologist that read the ultrasound has final say on all results. Therefore, the techs do not give any information. Your OB should receive a copy of the report fairly soon after your ultrasound and he/she will be able to discuss the results.
