Q&A: I am considering changing OB's, but don't know if I'm being too sensitive.

by Dr. Gerard M. DiLeo

I have had 4 miscarriages and one healthy, full-term baby in 5 years. 3 mc's were in the 1st trimester and one was at 21 weeks. My Ob seems unconcerned, saying things like, "At least you know you can get pregnant." and "You're only 27, you shouldn't have any problems." I think she should do some tests at this point (especially since for 2 years of the 5 I was pregnant or nursing), but she thinks they are uneccesary. Do you think should change OB's?

Ask her to refer you to either an Infertility specialist, a Reproductive Endocrinologist, or a Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist for a consultation. If she refuses, seek one out yourself. In this way, you haven't burned any bridges. Another opinion is never foolish when it comes to this type of concern.
