How to Decorate a Gender-Neutral Nursery
If you’re considering a theme for your nursery, childhood favorites such as nursery rhymes and playful animals like bunnies or teddy bears are not gender specific and allow you to introduce some of your own favorite childhood items into your baby’s little world. Both of these themes are well suited for your blue and yellow color palette as well.
Time after Time
It is important to keep the evolution of your nursery in mind and remember that there will be ample time to make adjustments in the coming months. You have many opportunities to modify this space with the addition of furnishings and accessories after your baby is happily at home.
Focus on creating a space that is comfortable for you and cozy for your baby—there will always be time for the details. You can later add gender-appropriate accents with lampshades, wall art, picture frames, or pillows.
Don’t be overly concerned with blue or pink. A crisp white lampshade can be every bit as feminine as a rosy pink one, just by adding a simple organza bow around the base. Or a simple frame decorated with a purple and green plaid ribbon can be as suitable for a little girl as a pink ballerina frame. To add more color to a baby boy’s nursery, introduce shades of green, crisp white, and of course, more blue.
Create surroundings that speak to the love in your heart, and in turn speak to your child. Memories created in this room will remain with both of you for a lifetime.
