Q&A: Is it normal that my baby has an elevated heart rate?

by Dr. Gerard M. DiLeo

I am a 38 year old who has 2 children. These children are now aged 14 & 16. I am now in my 6th month of my third pregnancy. The doctor now keeps telling me that the baby's heart rate is about 165 everytime I go in. For my first 2 children the rates were always between 125-140. Is it normal to be having the rate this high for this pregancy? Is it because I am older?

No, it's because your baby is still small. The heart rate should go down a bit as he or she gets further along.
