Q&A: What does it exactly feel like when the baby is kicking?

by Dr. Gerard M. DiLeo

What does it exactly feel like when the baby is kicking? Because my due date is 09-07-04 and I am suppose to feel it. I feel I do yet I am not sure.

Usually the perception of fetal movement doesn't occur until about 18-22 weeks. It usually begins with a sensation of fluttering, like butterflies, then becomes stronger and more discrete as your baby gets bigger. It's probably too early for this in you, so you're probably feeling some uterine cramping which is a normal uterine response to the enlarging pregnancy.
