I am about six weeks pregnant (from LMP). I had a miscarriage last November with my first pregnancy. About two weeks ago my Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) was 2,212. Today (12 days later) my HCG was 17,323. Although my doctor said that the level was "appropriate," I am worried. I have heard that the level is supposed to double every two to three days, and obviously it hasn't.

Pregnancy after a miscarriage can be very stressful! Until you hear that heartbeat and (better yet) feel fetal movement every day, it is hard to be reassured that your heart isn't going to be broken again.
So far this sounds very good to me. The doubling of the hCG every two to three days occurs early in pregnancy—until the level reaches 10,000 or so. After that time, it typically doesn't rise as quickly. By an hCG of 17,000, you may be able to see a heartbeat on ultrasound, which would help to reassure you the pregnancy is going well. After that point, there isn't much to do other than take good care of yourself and have faith. Once a heartbeat is heard in the office (around 10 weeks) the chance of miscarriage drops to under 1 percent. Maybe at that point you will be able to breathe easier. Good luck to you! I know the waiting is awful, but time will pass, and so far this seems very promising.
