Q&A: Does no nausea mean there is a problem with the pregnancy?

by Dr. Gerard M. DiLeo

I'm seven weeks pregnant. I felt somewhat nauseous for the past week, but this morning I woke up without any stomach pains. Could that mean there's something wrong with my baby? Shouldn't I feel more and more nausea during my first trimester, not less?

Nausea is a common symptom of pregnancy—but not the only one. Yes, many pregnant women experience nausea in their first trimester, and even beyond. The percentage of pregnant women who suffer from mild to severe nausea depends on the source you are reviewing; most estimate at least 50 to 80 percent of women have nausea during pregnancy.

BUT there are those lucky few that don't experience nausea while pregnant. Just because you don't feel nauseous doesn't mean that something is wrong with your unborn baby. If you're still concerned, don't be shy about setting up an appointment with your healthcare provider to reassure you that you and your baby are just fine.
