Q&A: My doctor says I'm six weeks pregnant, but couldn't see if the embryo is growing.

by Dr. Gerard M. DiLeo

My OB said that I was about six weeks pregnant. He did an internal ultrasound and found a sac but wasn't sure if their was an embryo growing. Is it to soon to be able to see something.

If your dates are off by as much as 6 days (and often are), you can have a normal pregnancy that just shows the sac. Repeating the ultrasound in 2 weeks will give you your reassurances/answers, for after 7 weeks, one should see a good fetal pole and fetal heart rate.
