Q&A: Can I follow a low-carb diet while pregnant?

by Dr. Gerard M. DiLeo

I have been following a low carbohydrate diet for about 20 months, and am now eight weeks pregnant. If I continue with my low carb way of eating, is it safe for my developing baby?

Ask your doctor for a referral to a registered dietitian for an ADA (American Diabetes Association) diet. Then you can use a diet that works great in pregnancy, as well as being low in carbohydrates.
