Q&A: Is there a way to find out if my baby is my husband's before birth?

by Dr. Gerard M. DiLeo

I am currently 10 weeks pregnant with my first child. I made the mistake of having an affair, and I'm afraid this child might not be my husband's. I know the only sure way to prove this is with a blood test or DNA testing. Is there a way this can be done while I am still pregnant instead of waiting until after the baby is born?

In my opinion, the risks of an invasive test that might jeopardize a normal pregnancy far outweigh the benefit of relieving your curiosity. The only way to test is invasively, with chorionic villus sampling, amniocentesis, or umbilical artery aspiration. And then you'd need blood from your husband and the other possible father. Please, as hard as it is, be patient.
