Q&A: Could a puppy with distemper harm my unborn baby?

by Dr. Gerard M. DiLeo

I was around a sick, 9-week-old puppy for about 4 days, picking him up, cuddling him, etc. As it turns out, the veterinarian thinks the pup had distemper. Could this disease harm my 29-week-old unborn baby?

I'm not a veterinarian, but according to the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), "Neither disease (canine or feline distemper) is transmissible to humans."

Also, my research indicates that if you've been immunized against measles, this will give you immunization against distemper as well.
