Q&A: How bad are products that contain salicylic acid while pregnant?

by Dr. Gerard M. DiLeo

I am 10 weeks pregnant and have been using two different topical face gels that contains salicylic acid (0.5% and 1%). I just discovered that these products are not supposed to be used during pregnancy, and am trying to determine how large the risk I've imposed on my baby might be. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Probably no risk, although now you can't go wrong stopping these creams altogether. Let your doctor know, but I doubt this will raise any significant worries in him or her.
