Q&A: I want to wait to have my next child, but don't know if it will be easier to have them subsequently.

by Dr. Gerard M. DiLeo

If a woman waits 3 or more years between pregnancies will later deliveries be just as painful as first deliveries?

Generally, all subsequent deliveries are better tolerated for a number of reasons, including usually quicker labors, less anxiety, and knowledge of what to expect. In my opinion, the psychodynamics play as important a role in an easier delivery as the physical changes that have happened as a result of a previous delivery.
