Q&A: I hear people talking about induced labor, but don't know exactly what it is.
What is induced labor and what is done to induce the labor?
Induction of labor is the artificial stimulation of contractions, usually with oxytocin, the same stuff you make yourself. It’s given as IV, and as long as the accepted prerequisites are met, it’s usually quite safe. But it’s best used when delivery is indicated for medical reasons, like diabetes, gestational hypertension, etc.
