Proving that she really is Kate-Austen tough, former Lost star Evangeline Lilly opens up about her very long home birth.
The Scoop
Evangeline Lilly went the drug-free route as she hoped for a fast and easy delivery with the assistance of her midwife and boyfriend, Norman Kali. But life has a funny way of not following the script: Lilly's labor ended with her beautiful son, Kahekili, but also lasted for a long and painful 30 hours.
"We decided to have the baby at home because we wanted it to be a natural birth, and it turns out that it was 30 hours of natural," the actress tells Jay Leno on the Tonight Show (via the Daily Mail).
The 30 hours also included an incredible eight hours of pushing, but Lilly says her midwife stepped in to help with "a few suggestions"—after she'd already been pushing for five hours. "And I was like, 'Really?' After five hours of pushing you have a few suggestions? You couldn't have told me five minutes in?'" says Lilly.
The Future
Is this experience enough to make the new mom think twice about having more children? "If I wasn't working right now, I would be trying. I want a brood," Lilly says. "How many are on a basketball team?"
No word of whether her future labor plans include an epidural.
