Q&A: I am 10 weeks and 2 days pregnant. Should I be concerned about not gaining weight yet?

by Dr. Gerard M. DiLeo

I am pregnant with my first child. I am 10 weeks and 2 days along. I have had a little bit of morning sickness, but have not vomited. I checked the scales today and I have not gained a single pound, though my belly does stick out a little more than usual. I am 5'5'' and 140 pounds. I have been eating like I normally do. Should I be concerned about not gaining weight yet? What is considered normal at this stage?

If you're eating and not throwing up, it's got to be going somewhere! You're not going to see a burst of weight until into your 2nd trimester, so don't worry at this time. You don't have to have vomiting in pregnancy, either. If you're losing weight, though, inform your doctor. Otherwise, wait...you'll feel pregnancy soon enough.
