I have a lot of pain in my hands; I feel a burning, tingling sensation, and some numbness. I wear a brace because the doctor suggested it, but it really doesn't help much. The pain is so bad I can't sleep at night. I take Tylenol, but that only helps a little.
What can I do? Is this normal? I never had this with my first child, I am now 43 years old and in my 23rd week of pregnancy. Please help me!
This is a classic case of carpal tunnel syndrome, brought about by pressure on the nerves going through your wrist to your hand. The extra swelling of pregnancy causes this, and as long as the circulation isn't compromised, it's harmless, though--as you've found out--it can be extremely uncomfortable.
I'm sorry you're feeling so miserable. The only immediate remedy is surgery, but I recommend patience and delivery as your cure.
