Want a More Stress-Free Pregnancy? Try Meditation
Meditation is the perfect way to create a calm and stress-free bond between mother and baby.
Meditation is the perfect way to create a calm and stress-free bond between mother and baby. The ability to be deeply relaxed allows blood and oxygen in your body to flow more easily and your breathing becomes deeper and more regular. There are mental and emotional benefits as well. Your mind becomes more settled and you can focus on your baby, while emotionally, you’re able to bond with your child.
But how do you start if you’ve never tried meditation before? Here are a few great techniques I’ve found:
- While we all know this can be challenging, try your best to find 20 minutes to yourself, twice a day, that is your “me” time.
- Sit or lay down, depending on your preference. Close your eyes. Tune in to your baby and feel baby’s presence through the cadence of his/her vibration.
- Breathe slowly through your nose, keeping your mouth closed. Be conscious of your stomach rising as you gradually fill your lungs and diaphragm with air, then hold for one second before exhaling through your nose to the count of four.
- Once you establish a steady rhythm, put your hands on your stomach, then gently move them around. Stay focused as the baby awakens to your touch.
Once you’ve got it down, meditation and relaxation techniques can help you cope with a variety of physical and emotional stresses during pregnancy. It enables you to relax and focus your concentration while reducing stress, lowering your blood pressure, and enhancing your peace of mind. And that’s something every pregnant woman wants.
