Q&A: Does low hCG indicate a miscarriage?

by Dr. Gerard M. DiLeo

I'm currently four weeks, four days pregnant with my third child. I had one chemical pregnancy between my two kids (now aged three and one), but the two pregnancies were completely uneventful. I'm 28 years old and healthy.

Inspite of my rather lucky experiences with pregnancy and childbirth I'm terrified of a miscarriage. So I spent hours on the net trying to find information on the likelihood of another chemical pregnancy happening to me. Is it true that there is a link between very well-rising hCG and high pregnany outcome? (Mine was 12 at 10dpo, 67 at 12dpo and 353 at 15dpo.) I know that during my chemical pregnacy I was only 13 at 14dpo.

Thank you for any thoughts you wish to share. I'm so scared, I can hardly enjoy this pregnancy, and will definately not share my concerns with my doctor. I suspect his response will be an "All is fine..." answer.

Based on your rising hCG levels, your pregnancy sounds great! It is good that you are spending a lot of time discussing concerns like these and learning about your body. Your pregnancy seems like it's on its way to a good outcome.
