Six weeks ago I had a D & C (Dilatation and Curettage) after learning that my baby had no heartbeat (we were about 10 weeks along). Now my doctor has discovered via ultrasound that my ovaries are polycystic. Is this common after miscarriage or D & C? Is this the same as PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome)? And will this impact future attempts to conceive? (I am currently 36 years old.) Thanks for any advice you can lend.

If the ultrasound was done soon after your miscarriage, it may just be the ovaries trying to start back up. However, blood work seems to nail down the diagnosis of PCOS, specifically, a glucose/insulin ratio, FSH, LH, and serum testosterone. Your doctor may want to order these if a repeat ultrasound again demonstrates a multicystic picture.
PCOS is a cause of infertility, but it's not usually insurmountable. However, you got pregnant already, so that speaks against PCOS. I hope this helps.
