I was involved in a bad car accident, which causes me to be high risk. I am between 10-12 weeks pregnant and have been bleeding for a good two weeks now. My baby and I have had three ultrasounds which have shown the heartbeat at 172 and my cervix is completely closed. I also have a fibroid behind my uterus which causes some concern. Should I be exceedingly concerned about this?
I have had three miscarriages, but all three were within the first six weeks of the pregnancy. -
Your baby sounds fine, but the bleeding is a worry, of course. I doubt that the car accident is the cause of the bleeding, because usually if trauma like that is going to cause a problem, it will usually do so within 24-48 hours of the accident. You're too far along for the typical miscarriage, which indicates a possible placental problem, such as a subchorionic bleed, which can present like this and fade away over time to become a normal pregnancy.
If the fibroid is small, it's probably not a factor, but doesn't help. I think your doctor's right on with the repeated ultrasounds to keep re-assessing the pregnancy.
Unfortunately, only time will be your indicator on whether all of this will fizzle out or not.
