I had a placental abruption after going into labor at 37 1/2 weeks with my daughter. I had mild preeclampsia with extreme swelling and protein, but my blood pressure was still in the normal range. Is it likely that the abruption was caused by the preeclampsia? And should I be watched as a high risk pregnancy next time around? My doctor said that it is up to me, and I'm not sure.
The risk of abruption is still low, but higher in you than in the general population. Several ultrasounds are a good idea, especially close to term.
The risk of pre-eclampsia is high, since you've had it before, so YES, you should be watched as high risk. The fact that you got to 37 1/2 weeks, though, is reassuring, even if you have pre-eclampsia again.
