Q&A: I'm wondering since my husband and I are both Rh negative if I still need the RhoGAM shot.

by Dr. Gerard M. DiLeo

My blood type is A-. My OB-GYN informed me that I would need an Rh shot. My husband had his blood checked, and he is O-. I'm wondering whether this means that we are Rh compatible and therefore if I will not need the shot.

Since you and your husband are both Rh negative, the baby will also be Rh negative. Therefore, there will not be an Rh compatibility problem between you and the baby, so you should not need the RhoGAM shots.
