With the use of the maternal serum quadruple screen, are the results expected the same as an amnio or is this particular blood test only an "indicator" if your pregnancy is at risk for genetic problems?
My concern is that I am 35, will be 36 when I deliver and I fear that what appears to be an "arbitrary" age chosen for amnio may or may not be necessary. I am a relatively healthy woman, neither I nor my husband are aware of any genetic problems and at this point we have decided on no amnio, only the blood test.
Is there anything else we should consider? -
The screen is just an indicator of those at risk, the amnio being the absolute last word if it comes back abnormal. If it's normal, however, the risk is extremely low.
However, there is something called a "genetic" ultrasound, which is a Level III ultrasound that additionally looks for subtle features of genetic problems, and seems to be accurate most of the time.
