Barefoot and Pregnant Spa
Stacy Denney developed the idea for Barefoot and Pregnant in Mill Valley, California, after seeing close friends through dramatic pregnancies. Her goal was to provide a place where women could come to connect, relax, and rejuvenate.
After conducting her own research and consulting with a team of experts, who believe in the need to nurture the mother both physically and emotionally, Denney’s vision was created with specific components for prenatal and postpartum women.
- Relax: Guests work with therapists to target specific needs. Pregnant women enjoy a full body prenatal massage, which “embraces the body’s transformation, helping to relax tense muscles, ease trouble spots, increase circulation and provide energy,” explains Denney.
- An offering such as the H2Oh! facial helps with dehydration and hormonal changes, and new services such as acupuncture assist in normalizing physiological functions of the body.
- Revitalize: “Exercise in pregnancy encourages a healthy pregnancy and a smooth childbirth,” says Denney. The spa’s classes are designed for all fitness levels and include yoga, which works reproductive organs and the pelvis, and sculpt classes that combine cardio exercise and muscle toning.
- Support and Prepare: Classes addressing everything from preconception to toddlerhood, CPR, breastfeeding, massage, sign language, and even an Expecting Fathers Workshop led by Armin Brott, author of The Expectant Father: Facts, Tips, and Advice for Dads-to-Be, are offered, in addition to a new workshop on fertility that services clients even in preconception.
