Q&A: My prenatal vitamins contain no calcium, iron or vitamin C.

by Marie O'Sullivan, RN

I am 34 weeks pregnant. I know it's a little late to worry about this now, but I just realized that the prenatal vitmains my OB prescribed contain NO calcium, iron, or vitamin C?
Aren't these all things I need in excess during pregnancy? I never read the ingredients list until now - just took them and trusted they were the same as my last pregnancy.
What could my baby be lacking due to this?

Definetly talk this over with your OB. I am sure if you are eating healthy (vegetables, especially green ones, dairy products, fruits and fruit juice) that you are getting the calcium, iron and vitamin C needed. If you feel uncomfortable not having everything in one tablet, discuss changing the vitamin with your OB.
