| Fetal Distress | When fetus is in jeopardy because of maternal complications but usually because of lack of oxygen. When distress is confirmed immediate delivery is usually preformed. | Change in fetal movement, heartbeat changes. |
| Postpartum Hemorrhage | Excessive bleeding after birth that is difficult to stem. Several causes include a large baby or traumatic delivery. | Abnormal bleeding after delivery -- bleeding that saturates more than one pad per hour. |
| Shoulder Dystocia | Dystocia means labor that does not progress, in shoulder dystocia, it is because the baby's shoulder become stuck in the birth canal. | Delivery Stalls after the head emerges and before the shoulders are out. |
| Uterine Inversion | When the placenta doesn't detach completely after delivery and when it emerges, it pulls the top (fundus) of the uterus with it. | Excessive bleeding and sometimes shock in the mother |
| Uterine Rupture | When the uterus ruptures during pregnancy or labor. | Severe abdominal pain, fainting, hyperventilation, rapid heartbeat, restlessness and agitation. |
| Vaginal & Cervical Lacerations | Tears in the vagina or cervix | Excessive bleeding. |
