Q&A: I'm 35 weeks and my belly has been hard all day. What is this?

by Dr. Gerard M. DiLeo

I'm 35 weeks along and as of today—the entire day—my belly has been hard all over. Is this normal? This is my second pregnancy, but first was more than seven years ago, so I forget!

Probably just Braxton Hicks contractions, but I'd let your doctor know immediately. Everyone feels labor differently, and a constant hardness could be a sign of problems with the placenta separating. Your doctor's office can give you a perspective better than I can, so do this without delay.
