Q&A: Is bruising during pregnancy normal?

Is bruising common in pregnancy? I seem to be getting a lot of bruises that are tender to the touch but I am completely unaware of how they happen.

Bruising isn't unusual in general, but isn't particularly more common during pregnancy. Easy bruising can be due to problems with the blood's ability to clot, or changes in the skin that makes it thinner and less protective. Feeling distracted sometimes leads to a bit more clumsiness and minor injuries as well. But if you are really getting unexplained bruises, particularly if they are repetitive and bigger than a couple of inches, see your doctor or midwife for evaluation.
