Q&A: Why can't I sleep at night at 24 weeks pregnant?

by Marie O'Sullivan, RN

Hello, I'll be 24 weeks in a couple of days & I'm starting to feel tired again like the first trimester. I'm also having trouble sleeping through the night. Is this normal for this stage? I expected this again in the third trimester, but since I'm not quite through with the second trimester, I'm just a little surprised. Thanks for your insight.

It can be normal for you to have that tired feeling again and to have trouble sleeping if your belly is already fairly large. Being on your feet a lot during the day can also have an effect on your energy level and sleep patterns. Last but not least, diet and nutrition can also play a role since your baby is drawing an increasing amount of nutrients. Prenatal vitamins are essential to keep up with this nutritional demand on your body. Are either of these issues applicable to you?
