November 7, 2012: Britax® Recalls Convertible Car Seats

Three styles of Britax® convertible car seats have been recalled due to a possible choking hazard.

What's the Deal?

Britax Child Safety, Inc. has announced a voluntary recall of roughly 60,000 convertible car seats—namely the Boulevard 70-G3, Pavilion 70-G3, Advocate 70-G3 car seats in the US, and the Boulevard 65-G3, Pavilion 65-G3, and Advocate 65-G3 in Canada. These car seats were manufactured with an enhanced harness system that utilizes special HUGS pads that were meant to make the seats safer and more comfortable. But Britax® has learned that children can chew and bite off pieces of the pads, which presents a choking hazard.

Do You Own It?

The recall includes Britax Boulevard 70-G3, Pavilion 70-G3, and Advocate 70-G3 convertible car seats in the USA and Boulevard 65-G3, Pavilion 65-G3, and Advocate 65-G3 convertible (infant/child) car seats in Canada manufactured between June 1, 2012 and August 31, 2012 with the following model numbers:

What Should You Do?

First, Confirm whether your Boulevard 70-G3, Pavilion 70-G3, Advocate 70-G3, Boulevard 65-G3, Pavilion 65-G3, or Advocate 65-G3 Convertible (Infant/Child) Car Seat is affected by verifying the model number and date of manufacture.

To fix the issue, Britax is providing a remedy kit with replacement pads that are made from a material that will not break apart when children chew or bite. In the meanwhile, the HUGS pads can be removed. Once you receive the remedy kit, Britax strongly recommends that you replace the HUGS Pads to ensure maximum performance of the seat.
