Samantha Harris, two-time Emmy-nominated TV personality and host of NBC’s Stars Earn Stripes, knows that a prepared mom is a happy mom. Here’s what she keeps handy in her diaper bag for any challenges she might face when out and about with her two young daughters.
Kiddopotamus Reusable Placemat
“We wipe it clean and take it with us to restaurants. We’d been buying the disposable place mat and it seemed like a complete waste and not so great for our environment. So we got the reusable one that just suctions onto the table. It doesn’t work great on all tables, that’s the only downside. We carry a few disposable just in case, but that’s one of the best things.”
“Granola bars, fishies, string cheese… I always like to give a healthy combination of a protein and a carb, even at this young age because it keeps their metabolism even so they don’t have those sugar spikes from carbs or those dips. Obviously we know how volatile kids’ emotions can get [laughs] when they’re hungry so we like to keep them well fed.”
“It’s essential. Every time I’m at a park or grocery store or any myriad of places where germs invade our bodies. Any drugstore brand— it doesn’t really matter what you’re using. I’m still on a mission to find a better smelling one, other than the alcohol prone types—though they need alcohol in them.”
Editor’s note: Seen here is an alcohol free sanitizer by Babyganics!
“They’re a saline based wipe that are great for boogers. And if she puts them in her mouth, she’s not going to get sick from it. We can wipe her eyes, her nose, the placemat, sticky fingers. They’re wipes but other wipes aren’t as toxin free. Boogie Wipes are. And they smell really good.”
“I don’t have a favorite brand. I use a cloth diaper as her swim diaper—I take out the insert padding. I feel guilty [not using cloth diapers in general] but I do a lot of other things to help protect the environment.”
