10 Tips for the Perfect Nursery
One of the most exciting things about expecting is getting the nursery ready. This is your chance to let your imagination run wild and your inner decorator take charge. These simple tips will help!
Have a Direction
If you already have a nursery theme in mind, you’re ahead of the game. But if you’re torn between floral and funky, space and sports, modern and traditional, some of these tips might just give you the direction you need to create the nursery of your dreams.
To get started, ask yourself a few questions. Do you want a gender-neutral nursery? This is a great option if you’re thinking of using the nursery for babies one, two, and three. Of course, gender neutral is also the way to go if you’re simply waiting until D-Day to find out if it’s a boy or a girl.
You’ll want to give some thought to whether the look you’re happy with now, will be something you’re just as happy with in a few years time. While trends are appealing, remember, you’re going to be spending a lot of time in this room so pick a theme that you’ll be able to live with long after the trend becomes history.
Consider your interests. Are you a travel enthusiast? An ocean lover? A sports fanatic? Once you’re able to answer these questions, the fun starts, and by fun, we mean the theme itself! With a unified theme, room color, bedding, rugs, and furniture will all come together to create your baby’s unique space.
Mixing the Old with the New
One of the things we love doing is taking a traditional theme and bringing a modern twist to it. Classics like Winnie The Pooh and Beatrix Potter can be easily updated. Why not try colors like Honey or Sunshine, and accents such as stencils and framed art, to bring these old favorites new life.
Look to the book shelf for some fun ideas. Dr. Seuss makes a creative and colorful world for Baby and you don’t have to limit yourself to just one book or character. With so many fantastic words at your disposal, you can even add a personal touch by getting a wall decal with one of your favorite quotes. Remember, “A person is a person no matter how small.”
Crazy about Characters
You can also design a room based on some beloved children’s characters. We love that affordable bedding sets like Thomas The Train, Dora The Explorer, Elmo, and even Hello Kitty are readily available at most superstores. We’re also big fans of everybody’s favorite wizard, Harry Potter, whose presence may just bring a little magic into your nursery.
The Great Outdoors
Nature is always a fabulous theme and provides a multitude of design options. From Ladybugs to Under the Sea to the Rain Forest, it’s easy to bring the outside world into your baby’s room via rugs, mobiles, and window coverings. Also keep in mind that earth tones are an extremely versatile option for wall color, and low VOC paints and eco-friendly furnishings make keeping the nature theme going strong.
We could go on and on with theme ideas but what’s most important is to not let this decision stress you out. While you may spend months deciding between cowboys and cars, ultimately your most important decisions will be less about Baby’s room, and more about Baby.
