A Change Will Do You Good
Your baby can be changed on any surface but a good changing table is essential as it keeps wipes, diapers, creams, and clean clothes within arm's length. There are two types of changing pads: Flat, and those with raided edges. You'll need to decide which suits you and Baby's needs best. Make sure the table is the right height for you and your partner (no slouching!) and when the time comes, and it will come fast, be sure to move powders, creams, and diapers out of busy Baby's reach.
And no nursery is complete without a diaper pail but the last thing you want is to be able to follow your nose to the source. Here are some tips for keeping your pail fresh:
- When possible take poopy diapers directly to your outdoor garbage
- Be sure to use a plastic liner—a regular garbage bag will do
- Empty the pail regularly
- Periodically spray the inside of the pail with disinfectant
- Wash out your pail with soap and water every couple of weeks
Look for a lid with a baby-proof lock (you don't want your little bundle of joy to turn into a little stinker!). This is especially important if you use cloth diapers.
