Q&A: What are ways that we can decorate a gender-neutral nursery?

We aren't finding out our baby's gender in advance—any tips for creating a gender-neutral nursery?

Plenty! Gender-neutral nurseries have come a long way from yellow, yellow, and yes, even more yellow. The good news is that now there are more and more cribs, changing tables, and nursery furniture that come in a variety of wood tones and various neutral shades, steering clear of pink and blue altogether. Of course, you will want to introduce some color, which can be done with sheet sets, room accents, and zero-VOC (volatile organic chemicals) paints.

When it comes to paint, choose from a variety of trendy colors—everything from pumpkin to celery. Or pick from a slew of classic gender-neutral themes such as Winnie the Pooh and Noah's Ark; or for the artistically inclined, get busy with stencils! Also, if budget permits, murals can do wonders for your walls and don't necessarily yell "boy" or "girl." In lieu of anything too permanent we're big fans of Wall Candy Arts. This "peel and stick" wall décor won't damage your walls and can be used over and over again. With everything from dots to seasons to chalkboard, these fun and bright decals are a great touch to any room—gender-neutral or not. Lastly, if you're really committed to "not finding out," check out mybabytique.com—there you can create an entire gender neutral registry without revealing the big surprise!
