The rechargeable batteries leak, posing a burn hazard to children

Recall Reason

According to the US Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC), Cobra Electronics of Chicago, Illinois, is voluntarily recalling approximately 8,000 of its Cobra Children's Two-Way Radios. While no injuries or incidents have been reported, the rechargeable batteries may leak, posing a burn hazard to children.

The recalled radios were sold under the brand name "Cobra." The recall involves two-way radios with the 300 mah "CEL" batteries. These walkie talkie-style radios are made of pink plastic and come in purple packaging. The product number is located on the front of the package and on the label inside the battery compartment: PR191-2VP. The batteries are standard AAA nickel metal hydride battery cells with a black wrapper with the battery name 300 mah (CEL) with the date code (TF or RF) on the battery itself.

The radios were sold at Toys "R" Us Stores nationwide from August 2008 through September 2008 for about $30.

Consumers should immediately stop using the two-way radios and contact the company for a free replacement and a 20 percent off coupon for a future purchase at www.cobra.com.

If batteries have leaked onto the radio, do not touch the liquid, and contact the company at 1-888-252-9889 between 8 AM and 6 PM EST Monday through Friday for a free replacement product, or visit the company's website at www.cobra.com.
